What is worth being shared with the internet? I am not really sure. But for me the appeal of it is the "screaming into the abyss" quality. Because this abyss is occupied by 67%* of the global population.
The state current state of the world is strange. It seems we've got our priorities all wrong. But I find the small things the most frustrating. Maybe because they feel the most tangible, or I feel the least powerless in relation to them.
The state of the Arts -not to be dramatic- seems atrocious. Cultural gatherings hang by a thin thread of cheap bubbles in plastic champagne glasses in overcrowded gallery openings. Governments' plight to cover up their shortcomings and fuckery by employing artists as mascots and personalities seems to have succeeded as receiving public funding has become the contemporary equivalent of being appointed knight by the queen. My problem is not that artists are receiving money from the government. My problem is that I am bored.
Just having recovered from a global pandemic, in denial of a global recession, and amid multiple global conflicts and wars, (some) artists are now proudly being socially aware, mostly by making work about themselves. An optimist would perhaps say that I live in a bubble and I would absolutely say yes. The (western-eu) Art World™ is far beyond a bubble, it is a circlejerk of bubbles.
